Starting at around 6:30 p.m. this evening, maintenance crews for PennDOT will remove a portion of a bridge joint that has become loose on northbound Interstate 81 on the bridge over Lambs Gap Road just prior to the I-81 Exit 59 interchange with Route 581 in Hampden Township, Cumberland County. As a safety precaution, welders will cut and remove part of the metal bridge joint. Motorists are advised that while two lanes of northbound I-81 will remain open to traffic, the third lane (which is the beginning of the off ramp for eastbound Route 581) will be closed in the vicinity of the bridge. Northbound motorists will still be able to exit and access the ramp for eastbound Route 581 after they pass the repair operation on the bridge over Lambs Gap Road. The repair work and traffic restriction should be completed within a few hours. A more extensive and permanent repair with a contractor will be made at a later date.

Motorists are asked to be alert to this operation and, for their safety as well as the safety of the work crews, to slow down when approaching and traveling through the work zone.
