Authorities are trying to determine how a vehicle became submerged in a York Township lake. On Saturday night, a fisherman alerted authorities after discovering a petroleum-like substance floating on on top of the water at Lake Redman.

Firefighters arrived at the scene and closed Hess Farm Road as they worked to determine where the substance was coming from.

Penn Township’s dive team and a Hazmat crew was called to assist with the investigation.

The dive team discovered a frame and motor for what appeared to be a four-wheeler or motorcycle in the lake.

The vehicle was removedĀ  and the scene was cleared around 1 a.m. on Sunday.

York Water Company placed booms in the lake to absorb the petroleum.

York Area Regional Police are investigating.
