Rapho Township Rail Car Fire

Over 150 firefighters are on the scene of a fire at a railroad transfer station in Rapho Township, Lancaster County.

Butane was being transferred from a railway tanker car that leaked and caught fire, severely burning a worker. That worker was transported to a burn center for his injuries. The fire is still burning and water continues to douse two tanker cars on either side of the transfer station to prevent another ingnition. It happened around 10:30 am along the first block of Maibach Lane in Rapho Township.

Route 230 is closed between South Esbenshade Road and Old Harrisburg Pike.

A nearby Hospice was evacuated and the Sheetz station closed because of Route 230 being shut down. Residents of a nearby trailer park were advised to leave the area, but evacuation was not deemed mandatory.
