Studies show a college dining hall can affect a student’s GPA and even whether they graduate. Colleges and universities now realize they not only must improve the food, but also the hours, the way their facilities look and much more. In fact, it has become so important that college and universities are actually using their dining facilities as recruitment tools.

So, what’s so important about a campus dining hall and what are parents and students possibly overlooking when they select a college?

David Porter, an expert on social architecture says, “A well-designed dining hall helps students connect with their school and develop bonds with other students. That can boost GPA by keeping them on campus and motivated to succeed. And it builds school pride and loyalty, both of which increase a student’s odds of graduation.”

Porter discusses what to look for in a college campus and culture, and explains how colleges are using dining halls to attract students and improve their college experience.
