Fire crews in Lancaster County battle a two alarm blaze at an apartment building in Ephrata Borough. The fire broke out at about 5:15 Thursday evening in a building in the 500 block of South State Street. The first crews to arrive on the scene reported heavy smoke and flames pouring from the 2nd floor of the building.
The fire quickly went to a second alarm. All the occupants of the apartment building escaped without injury. Firefighters battled the summer heat in addition to the flames. They climbed ladders in heavy protective gear to pour water onto the roof.
The American Red Cross was called to assist at least 10 people left homeless. More to come.
