Harrisburg’s efforts to bring in some much needed revenue by auctioning off Wild West artifacts is going better than anticipated.  In the first three days, the auctions held on City Island have brought in over two million dollars for the cash strapped city.  Nearly half of the money coming from antique weapons.  Theodore Roosevelt’s rare combination rifle and shot gun went for $115,000, 10 to 15 times more than expected.  People from more than 40 different countries are getting in on the bidding action by bidding online or by phone.

Thousands of artifacts are still up for bidding throughout the weekend.  Another auction will be held in September to auction off the remaining items.  Organizers hope the money brought in from the event will help put a tiny dent in the city’s 370 million dollar debt.
