Brad Shearer is being called a hero  after he found a girl trapped in her car for 18 hours alive Sunday night.

He says he was outside grilling when the sun light bounced off of the car catching his eye.

“  I think anyone would have done the same. I’ve been told differently but I think anybody would have done the same,” says Brad Shearer

West Hempfield Township Police say Saturday night around 11:00, 18-year- old Brooke Spence’s SUV was traveling along Marietta  Avenue when for unknown reasons, the car crossed into the Westbound lane. It then struck a guide wire for a utility pole, went airborne, and landed in a culvert.

“Unfortunately the girl`s parents were away on vacation so they didn’t know she didn’t come home that night so it could have been some time before someone knew she was missing,” says Chief Mark Pugliese, West Hempfield Township Police

Shearer said the young girl had called for help hours earlier. After some time the girl, hanging upside down, unable to find her phone, grew quiet.

“ She didn’t seem like she was in a lot of pain. Very calm, very calm, very collected. To go through what she went through and be that calm I was surprised,” says Shearer

Brooke Spence was taken to Lancaster General Hospital and has been upgraded to fair condition. Shearer says he someday hopes to meet the girl he saved.
