PennDOT District 8 announced today that roadway base repair began today on a 4.12-mile section of Route 74 from James Road in South Middleton Township to just west of Route 174 in Monroe Township, Cumberland County.

The $1,549,503 contract was awarded on May 3, to Pennsy Supply, Inc., of Annville, Lebanon County, and includes roadway base repair, inlet repairs, minor pipe extensions, milling and resurfacing, sign replacement and new pavement markings.

PennDOT advises those who travel Route 74 that they may encounter single-lane traffic restrictions with flaggers assisting them through the work zone on weekdays after 8:30 a.m. as crews repair the road in preparation for resurfacing. To avoid delays, travelers should allow for additional time in their plans or seek an alternate route.

Motorists are advised to be alert for this operation, to obey work zone signs, and to slow down when approaching and traveling through work zones, not only for their safety, but for the safety of the road crews.

Route 74, locally known as York Road, averages more than 8,700 vehicles traveled daily. Repairs to Route 74 are scheduled to be completed by November.
