A Hanover man is in custody, charged with stabbing and killing his father.

Police were called to the 100 block of Stock Street shortly after 9:30pm Thursday evening.  A man called 911 from the home and told the dispatcher that he had murdered his father.  When police arrived they found Scott Anthony Schaffer, 32, of Hanover, standing on the front porch waiting for them.  Police say Schaffer had blood all over his hands, and clothing and still had a knife in his possession.

The victim was found inside the residence with multiple stab wounds and a major injury to his neck, police said.  Schaffer was interviewed by police and confessed to the killing.  Schaffer said he did it because he wanted to  go back to prison.

Schaffer is being charged with first and third degree murder.  He is at Central Booking and will be arraigned later today.

Police are not releasing any information on the victim pending notification of the family.
