Pennsylvania State Police are investigating an officer-involved shooting Monday that killed Steven M. Brill, 46, of Rapho Township.
Manheim borough police officers responded to Brill’s home on the 14-hundred block of Old Line Road just before 8:45 p.m. Monday.
Brill had called 9-1-1 and reportedly told the dispatcher he would not be taken alive.
When officers arrived, state police said those officers were confronted by Brill, holding a rifle.
Officers shot and wounded him.
Paramedics rushed Brill to Lancaster General Hospital, where he died.
Investigators later found that Brill was actually holding an air gun, a Daisy Powerline 880, with a rifle scope.
Miriam Groff, a neighbor of Brill’s, said the news is pretty shocking.
“It’s very rural out here and very pleasant, but like I said, people take their problems wherever they go,” Groff said. ” You just never know.”
State police are now working to determine if the officers’ actions were appropriate.
Manheim Police Chief Joe Stauffer declined to comment on the investigation.
