An assistant coach at Conrad Weiser High School in Berks County is accused of having a sexual relationship with a 16-year-old student he coached.

Benjamin John Stopper, 31, of 222 Longview Drive in Sinking Spring, was arrested and charged Friday with institutional sexual assault and corruption of minors.

Stopper is an assistant track and field and football coach at the school and met the girl while coaching. Police say Stopper would sometimes give the girl rides to and from school activities.

The relationship began in May 2013, while Stopper’s wife was pregnant with their now 2-month-old child.

Police say Stopper had sexual contact multiple times with the victim at numerous locations throughout the Berks County.

A preliminary hearing is scheduled for Aug. 20.
