All lanes of I-81 near Exit 49 are back open after being closed earlier for a multi-vehicle accident.


I-81 southbound is down to a single lane of travel after it was closed earlier Sunday for a multi-vehicle accident near Exit 49 in Middlesex Township, Cumberland County.

Crews reopened all northbound lanes around 1:20 p.m.

Expect to see residual delays if traveling through the area.


Emergency crews remain on the scene of a multi-vehicle accident along I-81 south near Exit 49  in Middlesex Township.

Northbound I-81 is open to one lane of travel and traffic is slowly getting by.


A portion of Interstate 81 remains blocked near Exit 49 (High Street) in Middlesex Township, Cumberland County. Emergency crews shut down the southbound lanes of I-81 around noon after getting reports of an accident involving multiple vehicles.

Both north and southbound lanes are closed.

Traffic is backed up for several miles.

Motorists are asked to avoid the area and find alternate routes.

No word on any injuries.

    We need an exclusive police, fire, and ambulance/helicopter service for I-81 in PA. Let's turn it into a toll road to pay for it.
