More than 600 first-year students moved into Dickinson College Wednesday. Campus staff assisted families and students unload personal belongings and prepare to make Dickinson their home for the next four years.

It’s a memorable time for students and their parents. “It’s always a bittersweet day, it’s very exciting, students especially are excited to kind of be on their own and start college. Their parents are excited but it’s a little bittersweet,” said Christine Dugan with Dickinson College. “We’ve got a lot of activities planned both for parents and for students so they can start breaking away a little bit.”

Breahna Pierce is off to college for the first time. A Political Science major, Breahna plans to become a lawyer. “Right now I’m excited, but I’m sure once it settles in that I’m actually here without my parents I think I’ll get a little nervous but I think I’ll be fine, I’m excited,” said Breahna.

Her parents are nervous, but also excited for her new journey. “This for me is going to be different. She’s three hours away now, so I can’t just hop in the car and drop off you know snacks and treats and things,” said Breahna’s mother Latonya Pierce. “I’m excited for her new beginning and I know she is going to do great things here.”
