A grassroots organization from Newtown, Connecticut wants Starbucks to ban weapons in its stores. It’s the latest development in the ongoing national gun debate. The Newtown Action Alliance posted an open letter on its website asking Starbucks CEO Howard Schultz to support a gun ban in Starbucks stores.

Thirteen family members of the deadly December massacre at Sandy Hook Elementary School, that killed 26 people, signed the letter.  The letter also asks for a meeting with Schultz.A spokesman for the giant coffee retailer responded today saying Starbucks welcomes an opportunity to meet with Newtown family members to discuss their concerns.Starbucks supports open carry laws for legal firearms, and allows weapons in their stores.
