 The Dauphin County Election Board reminds residents that they have until Monday, Oct. 7 to register to vote for the upcoming municipal election.

“The municipal primary election will be held on Tuesday, Nov. 5, but election officials will begin preparing voter lists to distribute to the 159 polling places in Dauphin County in late October,” said Commissioner Mike Pries, who chairs the Election Board.  “To make sure that your name is on the list and that your voice is heard during this municipal election, do not delay.”

“Registering to vote and casting an informed ballot are two of the most important and hard-won rights and duties-of American citizens,” said Commissioner Jeff Haste, who is a member of the Election Board. “In a democratic society, everyone has the opportunity to influence the outcome of the next election and shape the future.”

To register for the upcoming primary, an individual must be:

  • A United States citizen for at least one month prior to the November 5 election;
  • A resident of Pennsylvania and the election district for at least 30 days prior to the election; and/or
  • At least 18 years of age on or before November 5.

Offices that will appear on the ballot this year include state and county court judges; county prothonotary and coroner; city and borough mayors, council members; township supervisors and commissioners; tax collectors and auditors; and all judges of election and inspectors.

“In these municipal races, one vote can make a difference,” said Commissioner George P. Hartwick, III, who is also an Election Board member.  “So, don’t let others make the decision for you; be involved, register and vote.  If you are unable to get to the polls due to a medical condition or travel, you may request an absentee ballot.”

Voter registration and civilian absentee ballot forms, as well as a list of polling places, can be found on www.DauphinCounty.org by clicking “Government Services,” and then on “Elections & Voter Registration” and then “”Vote,” or by calling the Bureau of Registration and Elections at 717-780-6360.
