The Perry County Coroner identified the man killed in a duplex fire early Saturday morning as John Seiger, Jr. Neighbors who escaped from the duplex say they’re lucky to be alive because no fire alarms went off to warn them.

It happened at the home on Valley Avenue in Penn Township.

Seiger was 52 years old.  A cat was also killed in the fire.

The fire started at about 4 a.m.  The neighbors living on the other side of the attached duplex smelled smoke and escaped to safety.

“My dad woke up before anyone else did and got us outside before anything happened,” says Michael Nyhart, who lives next door.

“These are all row homes, they’re all close together and if one catches, if it gets out of control, they can all go,” says another neighbor, Wade Cutler
