Folks went back in time at Fort Hunter Park in Dauphin County on Sunday for the Annual Fort Hunter Day Festival. The festival sponsored by M&T Bank celebrated 18th and 19th century life with simple, old-fashioned family games, activities, and arts and crafts. Crafts included bee keeping, tatting, rug hooking, apple butter making, and sheep shearing. Attendees strolled through the park to the sounds of the Gent’s Night Out Barbershop Quartet and bagpiper, Rodney Owens. Kids of all ages also enjoyed hay rides, pony rides, and carriage rides along a scenic outdoor setting.
Julia Hair, Fort Hunter Park Manager says, “Featuring old time events, the way we don’t get to live anymore, that we take this time out for this simple festival to highlight some of the ways families used to live”.
Also, for the eighth straight season, archaeologists from the Pennsylvania Historical Museum Commission excavated near the Fort Hunter Mansion, searching for clues about the 1750’s French and Indian War Fort.
