More than 500,000 York Fair goers made their mark at America’s Oldest Fair. Although neighbors have to wait another year for the fun to resume, vendors kept busy Monday cleaning up.
2,000 crab cakes later, business is closed. Nestled next to the York Fair grandstands, Mr. Bill’s spent a 10-day stretch attracting hungry fair-goers.
Mr. Bill’s serves “Fish, shrimp, oysters, softshells,” says Christopher Towson.
He helps his mom, Sandy, operate the food vendor. It’s been a part of the fair for 30 years. On Monday, Mother Nature marks day one of fair clean up.
Sandy says, “If the rain would stop, it would be a little better, but it’s better than setting up in the rain, that’s for sure.”
Christopher says, “It’s a big mess because it’s raining but other than that it’s not a big deal.”
The rain makes the Towson’s job a bit more complicated, but it won’t wash away memories made at Mr. Bill’s.
Christopher says, “People expect us to be here every year. Repeat customers always they know where we are at, right side of the grandstand.”
Sandy says, “It’s a lot of work, but fun to a lot of people. A lot of friends and we have a great work crew that comes with us every year, so it’s enjoyable.”
