Some parents in Susquehanna Township, Dauphin County say they moved to the area because of the prestige of the school district. Now, they’re looking forward to Monday night’s School Board meeting in hopes they can voice concerns about the direction the district is taking.

The school board is being audited, a former administrator is accused of a sex crime, and some long-term teachers are resigning.

Susquehanna Township High School Assistant Principal Shawn Sharkey was arrested Friday on charges of having sex with a 16-year-old female student.

“Gross, I mean, disgusting,” says parent Erica Floyd, who has three children in the school district. “You expect when you send your kid to school that they’re safe, they’re getting their education. They’re being treated like students, and not as adults.”

State Auditor General Eugene DePasquale announced last week he will extend an audit of the school board. School board members did not respond to our requests for comment.

“Some of the teachers are leaving, and they’re not telling us why they’re leaving and then we’re getting replacement teachers,” says Floyd. “A lot of the teachers who left, they’ve been here since I was in the school.”

The school board will approve 14 more resignations on Monday.

The meeting will be held at 7 p.m. Monday, in the auditorium of Susquehanna Township High School.
