The show won’t go on at the Lancaster County Convention Center this weekend for Rapper DMX. The well-known artist is apparently just as well-known for his rap sheet.

Promoter Larry Bently planned to bring DMX to the Lancaster County Convention Center this weekend. He says when he went to pay his deposit to secure the venue they pulled the plug.

“They said that it was too late, it was too close,” said Larry Bently a promoter with Loud Nation Wildlife. Bently said he doesn’t believe that is the only reason. “As we were going down there the last couple of weeks they said that Mayor Rick Gray was calling in the last couple of weeks hounding them about the artist that we were bringing, and pretty much told them to take a look at it. They looked at his resume and they just didn’t approve of him.”

Lancaster Mayor Rick Gray responded to the claim. “The Chief of Police called to my attention the criminal background of the individual that was going to be performing. I spoke with the Convention Center and just asked if they knew, which includes current criminal acts,” said Gray. “I checked in with the people at the Convention Center and they said the reason the show isn’t going on is that the promoter didn’t honor the terms of the contract in the way of deposits and what not.”

“It’s between him and the Convention Center. Certainly I didn’t say cancel the concert and the concert wasn’t cancelled because of anything I said,” said Gray.

Bently said he will still try to work with the convention center in the future. “I hope I didn’t burn any bridges. I was initially doing this for Lancaster. So hopefully when this is all said and done I will bring in another artist that is maybe not such a liability,” said Bently.

The show will still go on, but it has moved to York County. It will be held this Saturday at The Belmont in North York. Tickets are $25.00 in advance and $45.00 at the door.
