Tragedy was averted in downtown Harrisburg this morning as a window washer was rescued by firefighters several stories off the ground. The man was washing windows at the Penn Harris building, 2nd and Market Streets, when he accidentally triggered a safety device that left him unable to move. He hung in place for about twenty minutes until firefighters helped him down. Firefighters say the real danger to the worker was the compressed position in which he was stuck. Eventually it would have been hard for him to breathe.
