Authorities are investigating after a child was found wandering alone for several hours through a Cumberland County development on Wednesday.

Officers were called to the Keystone Arms development in Middlesex Township for reports of a child who was dropped off by a school bus and was wandering around the neighborhood for hours on end.

According to neighbors, this is a frequent occurrence. Police found the 11-year-old walking around the neighborhood with no food or water.

Further investigation revealed the child moved out of the school district and was never transferred. According to police reports, the mother allows the child to get dropped off in the development without adult supervision. She would then pick up the child several hours later.

The case was referred to Children and Youth Services and the District Attorney’s office for further follow up.
