Just like swimming is an annual tradition, so is closing our pools Labor Day Weekend. One public pool in Lancaster County is an exception.

The Manheim Community Pool did not close after Labor Day Weekend.

“The residents actually made the request through me, they used me as their vehicle to present it to the board. They voted on it and everyone thought it was a great idea!” said Christina Donnelly with Hammerguard Aquatics. “It’s been really popular, but mostly our members are utilizing it.”

“We had so many rainy days we wanted to make it up at the end of the pool year. We still have good weather in September so we said you know what, we will keep it open!” said Mike Stivers, Manheim Borough Manager. “It hasn’t helped us with revenue. Most of the people who come are pool members. We didn’t charge them any extra for the extended season. It was more of a way for us to give back to the community.”

“I love it! I love the water! I hate when it gets winter. I like to be out in the sun and do exercises in the water,” said Deanna Elliott. She swims at the pool regularly. “Last September it was really, really hot! This September it has been really, really cool! But we come up anyway. Once you get your arms and shoulders under it’s ok.”

After this weekend the pool will close for the season. The pool is open Saturday from noon to 8 p.m. and Sunday noon to 7 p.m. For more information click here
