A York County Transportation Company relies on federally funded iconic sites to make money.  But when museums and historic sites are closed, business is unable to go the extra mile.

Since 1932, the wheels on the Bailey Coach Buses have been rolling.

Bailey Coach President, John Bailey says, “About 90,000 (people) a year we transport in our big buses, medium-sized buses and also sedan and van transportation.”

But this bus business may have to put the brakes on.  In the Government shutdown, Bailey says he could lose up to $18,000 in revenue from group trips to Gettysburg, Philadelphia and out nation’s Capital. Plus, his coach drivers and cleaning staff would be without pay.

“If there’s no place for them to visit, they can’t get into the Air and Space Museum, Natural History Museum, all the museums funded by the Government budget they’re going to be shutdown,” says Bailey.

But like any other bump in the road, Bailey says his business will move forward.

Bailey says, “Since 1932, we’ve survived depressions, wars, terrorist actions and we’re still here, so we’ll survive this also.”

Bailey says the only way he can keep his doors open entirely, is if leaders in Washington keep an open mind and resolve the shutdown.

“That you would stop your pay and benefits and take a cut like we have to take and then maybe you’d realize what you’re doing to the American public,” says Bailey.
