The old courthouse in Carlisle was lit up with candlelight during a vigil Sunday night to raise awareness of mental illness.

The Cumberland and Perry Counties Mental Health Program put together the concert. The band performed a song inspired by Angela Pieruccini. She has already faced three state hospitalizations in her young life, as she dealt with severe depression and other issues. But as she got ready to be discharged early this year, she wrote a poem, called “Impossibilities Become Real.”

“It was a poem I wrote at the beginning of the year before I left the state hospital,” says Pieruccini. “I just hope that people can see that there’s possibilities in their future. Mental health doesn’t have to hold you down, you can move forward.”

The event is part of Mental Health Awareness Week in Cumberland County, which is aimed at reducing the stigma surrounding mental health issues.
