Perry County native Mike Wysocki will make his national TV debut Wednesday, performing his stand-up act on “The Arsenio Hall Show.”

Wysocki grew up in Newport and graduated from West Perry High School. His parents say he initially wanted to be a sports writer but found his calling in comedy.

“He was very shy as a child. And, the first time we saw the show, my wife and I were both shocked. His demeanor had totally changed,” says his dad, Mike Wysocki, Sr. “I’ve been going around with a big smile on my face. yes, yes I’ve told everyone at the Weis store across the street and everybody I know in town. They’re all going to be watching.”

Wysocki, 41, won a comedy contest in Mexico, with the prize being Wednesday’s appearance.

The show was taped Tuesday. He said his performance went “really well.” He also had the opportunity to meet and talk with comedian Bill Maher, who’s also a guest.

“The Arsenio Hall Show” airs weeknights on FOX43 at 11 p.m.
