A five-year-old girl is recovering after she was mauled by a pit bull. Now, Mary Jane Jones, 27, of Conestoga Township, is charged with reckless endangerment.

Millersville Police said after the dog attack, Jones went to a Millersville pizza shop where the dog’s owner works and attacked the woman. It was all captured on surveillance video.

Southern Regional Police said Jones responded to a Craigslist ad the woman placed for an 11-month-old pit bull puppy for sale last month.

Jones took the puppy to her Conestoga Township home on a trial basis.

Just a few hours later, the dog mauled a five-year-old relative, who was playing with three other children at the house. The girl is recovering from more than 40 puncture wounds and 80 stitches.

“She’s going to survive and be okay, of course she’s going to have mental and physical wounds that are going to be with her for the rest of her life I’m sure,” said Cpl. Ron Burger of the Southern Regional Police Department in Lancaster County.

Cpl. Burger said the dog’s owner wrote in the ad and later told Jones in a text message that the dog is very protective and should not be around children. Jones assured the owner that she does not have kids.

“For the actor to go ahead and put the dog right with children in harms’ way of the kids, it’s very unfortunate and very sad,” he said.

After the dog attacked the little girl, police returned it to its owner and the animal was later euthanized.

Jones is also charged with simple assault in the attack of the dog’s owner.

The stupid twit should sit in jail for the next 10 years. And of course the puppy had to pay for her stupidity!

Sure is horrible that the child was in danger to begin with. A new dong has to first have time to adjust to the new family and has to learn to trust and to be trusted through time. You don't just on get a pit bull and take it for granted that it will fit right in with your family. The dog should have been contained in a safe place when not being supervised and when the children were around near to the animal. Children are too trusting around animals and should be watched and so should the animals. Why on earth did she leave children alone with a new grown dog to begin with? I have no pity for this lady and she should have the book thrown at her. Here again the dog pays for what the human didn't have enough sense to take caution against. The dog paid with its life, should have left the dog where it was.

Typical pit monger! The dog goes pit bull and so the new owner goes pit bull, totally ignoring the fact that she caused the catastrophe by her deceit, ignorance and neglect!

Pits are victims of their man-made mutations and victims of the pit bully people, who mislead and lie, inventing fictitious nicknames such as "nanny dog".

Let's stop making more victims. Enact and enforce mandatory spay/neuter microchipping of all pits, pit mixes, all dog aggressive dogs.

Dog fighters HATE this plane, as they know that pits are different, the best ar unprovoked attacking and mauling. That's why all USA dog fighters choose only pits.
