UPDATE: Dauphin County Coroner Graham Hetrick has ruled the death of 28-year-old Terrance Slade, Jr., of Steelton, accidental. He died on October 9, 2013 from a self-inflicted gunshot wound to his leg.

Last night Lower Swatara Township Police say a man died from a gun shot wound to his leg.

Police say the incident started after 11:30, when an off duty Middleton police officer was on his was home when he witnessed a car crash into a pole along Route 230. Police say the driver may have been intoxicated. The driver was not injured during the crash and was taken to the hospital for a blood test.

Chief Richard Brandt, of Lower Swatara Township Police, said that while on the scene, another motorist  pulled up to the scene and told officers that his buddy shot himself in the leg and he needed help. Officers followed the driver to the 600 block of 2nd Street, Highspire Borough, where they found a young man bleeding profusely.

The young man was transported to Hershey Medical Center where he was pronounced dead from his gunshot wound.

Highspire Police are investigating if the gun shot was self-inflicted. They are not releasing the name of the man pending family notification.
