Annual fall tradition wraps up for another year

It’s a fall tradition in Adams County. The Apple Harvest Festival symbolizes the end of the growing season and the time to enjoy all things apple.
This is the 49th year for the event, held at the South Mountain Fairgrounds near Arendtsville.
It features all sorts of music, hay rides, antique farm equipment, and hundreds of arts and craft vendors.
There are also dozens of food vendors; many with apple specialties like apple pancakes and apple sausage.
One favorite is of course the apple sauce, which is made fresh, the old-fashioned way, right before your eyes.
“I’ve been coming here, like I said since I was so young, that this just seems natural, this is what you do and its got tradition behind it, like I said my mom handed this down to me and I’m hoping to hand it down once I’m done,” says Mary Kane, Co-Chairman of the apple sauce stand.
Many people come back year after year. The Apple Harvest Festival is always held the first two full weekends in October.
