Northern York Regional Police investigated a possible scam at a residence in Manchester Township.

The resident reported that he received a phone call from a company in regards to locating viruses and other problems with the computer. The caller had the resident log onto his computer and then allowed the caller to remotely access the machine.

The caller then advised the resident that there were several viruses and malware on the machine and that he could clean it up for him for $300.00. The resident asked to speak to a supervisor for the company and was put on the line with another male who provided the same sales pitch. The resident then asked for a call back number and the caller disconnected.

Both phone numbers that were displayed on the resident’s caller ID indicate that they are no longer in service.
