The unofficial launch of the Thanksgiving season began on Tuesday, October 29, as the Central Pennsylvania Food Bank received a $10,000 donation from Capital Wine & Spirits LLC – one of the largest wholesaler/brokers of fine wine and spirits in Pennsylvania and a member of the Charmer Sunbelt Group – on behalf of Capital’s associates and the Pennsylvania Liquor Control Board (PLCB). (No public funds were used in this donation.) The donation will enable the Food Bank to purchase and distribute approximately 650 turkeys for the holiday season.

At the check presentation, Capital Wine & Spirits, LLC President, P J Horgan, and Chairman of the Pennsylvania Liquor Control Board, Joseph E. “Skip” Brion, encouraged residents of central PA and other businesses/organizations to join their organizations and donate turkeys to the Food Bank’s annual Turkey Drive.

“I want to extend our thanks to Capital Wine & Spirits for their generosity on the agencies behalf,” said PLCB Chairman Joseph E. Brion.  “As we head into the holiday season, it is so important to remember that there are those in our local communities who are in need.  If you are able, providing food, financial resources or even your time to the Central Pennsylvania Food Bank will not only help your neighbors but will be worthwhile for you as well.”

The day of the check presentation, 45 associates from Capital Wine & Spirits and the PLCB volunteered at the Food Bank packing boxes and sorting food.

“On behalf of the Capital Wine & Spirits team, I am grateful that we are in a position to continue to support the Central Pennsylvania Food Bank and our community,” stated PJ Horgan. “This donation will not only go to help feed Pennsylvania families in need – we hope that it builds awareness for the demands of the Central Pennsylvania Food Bank throughout the year.   I am thankful to be alongside our dedicated team members and our partners at the PLCB, volunteering their time to help this great cause.”

“As Thanksgiving approaches, Capital Wine and Spirits and PLCB’s donation will provide a turkey to hundreds of families in our communities” said Central Pennsylvania Food Bank Executive Director Joe Arthur. “We appreciate the ongoing partnership with Capital Wine and Spirits and PLCB as they support our mission to assist families struggling with hunger in central PA.”

Each year the Food Bank receives thousands of requests for frozen turkeys during the holiday season. The goal of the Central Pennsylvania Food Bank’s annual Turkey Drive is to receive 5,000 turkeys for distribution to families in our area. The Food Bank distributes frozen turkeys (as well as the side dishes that make a holiday meal complete) to hungry families during the holiday season, through a network of partner organizations in 27 Pennsylvania counties. Partners such as soup kitchens, food pantries, shelters and senior citizen programs will either directly distribute the turkeys or prepare turkeys on-site to serve their clients.

The public can donate frozen turkeys, as well as the ingredients for a traditional holiday meal, at the Central Pennsylvania Food Bank office at 3908 Corey Road, Harrisburg during the following hours:

Weekdays, 8 a.m. – 4 p.m.

Saturday, November 2, 9 a.m. – noon
