East Cocalico Township Police are looking into a series of burglaries of unlocked garages and thefts from vehicles. Police say some of the vehicles were left unlocked while others had their windows smashed. The thefts have been happening since September 11,  with the majority of them occurring within the past two weeks. Most of the victims live near the Berks County line. The thieves appear to be targeting hunting equipment, ammunition, sporting goods, and tools. In one case, a victim in the first block on North Ridge Road, near Reinholds, reported a loaded handgun stolen from his unlocked vehicle. The majority of the vehicles that have been entered are used for construction-type businesses. To date, there has been over $30,000 worth of property that has been reported stolen.  The East Cocalico Township P.D. would like to remind residents to lock their vehicle and homes, and to report any suspicious activity to the police. Anyone with any information is asked to contact Det. Kerry L. Sweigart of the East Cocalico Township P.D. at 717-336-1725.
