York College officials have suspended the wrestling team because of multiple reports of hazing.

The College’s Athletic Director, Paul Saikia, tells FOX43 he received an anonymous message a few weeks ago and decided to investigate.

Saikia says he’s very disappointed and although he wouldn’t explain exactly what the hazing entailed, he says if this was his child and they were hazed like this he would be angry.

Saikia says he’s never dealt with a situation so serious, and student athletes past and present are stunned over the allegations.

“I don’t know I just feel like everyone here, it’s a strong community like I don’t think that anyone would do anything to intentionally hurt anyone,” says Amanda Brogan, who plays lacrosse.

“We’ve never had any issues with that kind of stuff…I mean, I just can`t believe it because I know a lot of the guys and I just didn’t think that kind of stuff would happen,” says Andy Woods, a former member of the swim team.

Saikia says the school has a zero tolerance policy when it comes to hazing.

All members of the wrestling team have been suspended until the investigation is completed, which he hopes is by next week.

Saikia says he wants to talk to everyone on the team to get to the bottom of the situation.

All students and parents received an email about the situation but Saikia hasn’t personally spoken with any of the parents of students who are personally affected.

The wrestling team is scheduled for a match this weekend but that has been canceled.

Officials are hoping to release more information Thursday.
