A Lancaster chef is getting ready for a very busy Thanksgiving, making dinner for more than 500 people who might not otherwise have one.

Chef Meghan Young opened Characters Pub in her hometown, and last Thanksgiving she teamed up with Power Packs Project to make turkey dinners for 275 people. This year, she’s doubling that number.

The nonprofit gives meals and snacks to students who need them.

“I was really proud of it at the end,” she says. “It went so well that I thought, OK we’re going to do that again this year and we’re going to do it bigger.”
On Thanksgiving, Meghan’s volunteers will take the meals to drop-off locations, so that families can enjoy them in their own homes.

Characters Pub has already received some donations. They’re looking for $1,500 in donations to go towards packing supplies and food items, including a whole lot of turkey.

They need the donations by Thursday to buy the rest of the ingredients. If you’d like to help, you can call the restaurant at (717) 735-7788 or email info@characterspub.com.
