Harrisburg man charged with DUI after joyride in stolen car

A Harrisburg man was arrested last week after he was caught driving a stolen vehicle while under the influence in Fairview Township, police said. Kurt Patrick Newkam, 50, is charged with receiving stolen property, DUI,  providing false identification to law enforcement officers and driving under suspension while his license was suspended for a previous DUI.

Officers stopped Newkam around 3:26 a.m. on Nov. 21 after he committed several traffic violations, including failing to stop at a stop sign.

Officers quickly determined that Newkam was not who he claimed to be and eventually Newkam admitted to police that he stole the car .

Newkam was arrested and taken to York County Prison in lieu of $60,000 bail.

A preliminary hearing is scheduled for December 23.
