A 81-year-old woman narrowly escaped being impaled by a fence post during a crash in Lancaster County on Nov. 22. It happened along the 2100 block of Millersville Road (Route 741) in Pequea Township.

According to police reports, the Willow Street woman was driving when a car in front of her stopped to turn left. She lost control, went off the road and struck a fence.

A fence post penetrated the engine compartment of the 2008 Toyota Matrix, traveled through the fire wall and into the passenger compartment of the vehicle, police said.

The fence post missed the woman by inches. Police say it pinned her shirt and coat against the seat. Emergency crews were able to safely get her out of the vehicle.

The woman was not injured.
