Man accused of trying to steal pine tree in Southampton Twp.

A Shippensburg man was arrested Friday night after he tried to cut down another man’s pine tree, state police said. It happened at a home located along the 300 block of Strohm Road in Southampton Township around 9:15 p.m.

According to police reports, a 68-year-old man was sitting at home when he heard a chain saw. He told investigators that when he went outside to check on what was going on he saw 36-year-old Larry Shipley trying to cut down his blue spruce pine tree.

As Shipley attempted to flee he nearly struck the victim, state police said.

Shipley was later located by troopers.

He is charged with attempted theft, reckless endangerment and criminal mischief.
