An Ephrata man was sentenced  Thursday after he was found living with his 1-year-old grandson in a mobile home with 105 animals.

Robert Herman Sr., 57, plead guilty to endangering a child and animal cruelty.  Herman told the judge he kept the animals at his mobile home along the 800 block of Main Streeet while he was making plans to buy a farm.

Prosecutors say conditions inside the home were deplorable, with urine and feces covering the floors and walls. Some of the animals required veterinary care when charges were filed back in May.

The home was condemned and the boy now lives with his parents, according to the Lancaster District Attorney’s office.

The boys parents, William and Pearl Herman, are also facing charges.
