Veterans of Foreign Wars were honored on Saturday in York County. The Ladies Auxiliary pf Susquehanna Post 2493 of Mount Wolf, held its first Wreaths Across America ceremony at Manchester Union Cemetery.

With help from other local organizations and donations, the Ladies Auxiliary raised enough money to place a wreath on every Veteran’s grave in Union Cemetery, as well as several dozen other local cemeteries.

The group refused to let the cold weather and forecasted snow stop them from laying the wreaths.

“We were very adamant that it was going to happen today. The weather didn’t stop the war and it’s not going to stop us from honoring our veterans here today,” said Sandy Brenner, Auxiliary President.

Communities across the country laid wreaths in honor of fallen service members on Saturday. Congress unanimously decreed the second Saturday of December as National Wreaths Across America Day.
