Knife-wielding man shot, killed by police in Lititz

A 22-year-old man is dead after a police involved shooting in Lititz Borough early Saturday. According to police reports, officers responded to a domestic disturbance involving a grandmother and her grandson along the 100 block of Arrowhead Drive around 3 a.m.

Shortly after arriving at the scene– a Lititz Borough police officer was confronted by the woman’s 22-year-old grandson who threatened to kill the officer.

During the exchange, the man reached for the officer’s holstered gun and a physical struggle ensued. Police say the officer was able to push the man away and deployed a Taser.

Unaffected by the shock– the man ran into the kitchen, grabbed a large knife and lunged at the officer. According to police reports, the man continued at the officer with the knifeĀ  despite repeated orders to stop.

The officer opened fire and the man was shot several times. He died at the scene.

So far, no word on the man’s identity.

The Lancaster County District Attorney’s office is investigating and will determine whether or not the officer’s use of deadly force was reasonable.

The officer involved in the shooting has been placed on administrative leave.
