York County celebrated its Third Annual Wreaths Across America Day on Saturday.

Close to 1200 evergreen wreaths were placed upon the grave stones of deceased veterans at Susquehanna Memorial Gardens in York Township. Each wreath has a red bow on top and a white tag with a special note from the non-profit organization Wreaths Across America.

“During the holidays and the hustle and bustle, I think it’s important that we take a little bit of time and just remember those who have fallen in various wars, to honor their service and to teach our children and grandchildren about the sacrifice that they’ve all made,” said John Crone, Program Manager, Dept. of Defense.

The ceremony was supposed to be a part of more than 800 similar events that took place nationwide on Saturday, December 14th, but due to the snowy weather, the event was rescheduled for December 21st.
