Recipes for a Sparkling New Year!

Cocktails featuring Veuve Clicquot Champagne and

Grand Marnier Signature Collection No. 2 – Raspberry Peach

In 1772, Philippe Clicquot-Muiron established the company that would become the famed Veuve Clicquot.  In 1805 Barbe-Nicole Ponsardin became the widow (veuve is widow in French) François, son of Philippe and took control of a company; she became the first woman to take over a Champagne house.  Over 240 years later, the house that the Veuve Clicquot built is synonymous with excellent quality.  Since 1987 the Veuve Clicquot company has been part of the Louis Vuitton Moët Hennessy group of luxury brands, and today owns a controlling interest in New Zealand’s Cloudy Bay Vineyards.  Add to that, the Grand Marnier Signature Collection No. 2 Raspberry Peach from the House of Marnier Lapostolle and its unique fusion of fresh fruit and exotic orange essence, blended with premium Cognac, and you’ve got the making for fantastic celebration.

The second in Grand Marnier’s annual Signature Collection, Raspberry Peach combines the natural flavors of succulent European raspberries and rare red peaches from Ardèche, in the South of France, with world-renowned Grand Marnier, made from our exceptionally smooth Cognac and wild tropical Haitian oranges.  The result, an alluring and mixable spirit that is enjoyable on the rocks and in delicious cocktails.

Recipe:  Black Velvet Champagne Cocktail

Not really a “cocktail” but an intriguing combination of tastes and flavors.  Great for the beer-lover who wants to join in all the festivities.

Ingredients

Guinness stout, chilled

Champagne or other dry sparkling wine, chilled

Procedure

Take a white wine glass and fill halfway with Champagne by carefully pouring the champagne down the side of the glass.  Carefully pour the Guinness down the side of the glass – and go slow to avoid mounds of foam – filling the glass two-thirds full.  Give a very gentle stir to combine textures and flavors.
