COLD LAST DAY OF 2013

WebPhoto5

A cold front passing across the area continues to keep clouds spread over the area.  As it continues to move out of the area this evening, the clouds begin to break up a bit.  Expect clouds to thicken up again close to daybreak as a clipper system approaches from the west.  Lows fall into the 20s.  The clipper brings some flurries for the last day of 2013.  It’s a cold day too, with highs in the middle 30s and strong breezes making wind chills feel even colder.  The New Year’s Eve forecast is cold as well, but the breezes lighten a little.  Bundle up if you plan on being out and about!

ARCTIC BLAST BEGINS THE NEW YEAR

A few flurries are possible again on New Year’s Day to the north, with highs near 30 degrees.  Models are still indicating system from the west could bring accumulating snow Thursday into Friday, depending on how much it intensifies and where it tracks.  There is still a lot of uncertainty here because the computer models keep bouncing back and forth on what to expect.  We’ll keep an eye on this as the situation continues to develop, and iron out some more details once there is some consistency.

ICEBOX STICKS AROUND

Behind Thursday and Friday’s potential weather maker, some of the coldest air so far this season plunges into the Lower Susquehanna River Valley.  Highs could be stuck in the upper teens with limited sunshine on Friday.  Saturday morning could be a brutally cold start with low temperatures falling into the single digits!  Highs rebound a little during the under some added sunshine, but are still well below seasonal average in the upper 20s.  Sunday the moderating trend continues as a southwesterly flow kicks in.  Highs reach the middle to upper 30s.  Clouds build ahead of our next weather maker, which looks to bring a mess on Monday.

Have a great night!
