A man shot to death by a Harrisburg City police officer on Sunday evening has been identified as 43-year-old William M. Jackson.

Jackson, of West Hanover Township, was shot just before 5 p.m. at the corner of Schuylkill Street and Brensinger Alley.

According to the Dauphin County Coroner’s office,  Jackson was shot three times and died after one of the bullets hit his spine.

Officers were in the area investigating a suspicious Ford Ranger pickup truck when shots were fired, said Dauphin County District Attorney Ed Marsico

Results of toxicology tests performed on Jackson are pending.

The Dauphin County District Attorney’s office is investigating the case–which is typical of all officer-involved shootings.
