Bill O’Brien is leaving Penn State to become the head coach of the Houston Texans, according to multiple reports.
O’Brien is 15-9 in two years at Penn State. He spent five years with the New England Patriots before coming to PSU.
The 44-year-old O’Brien has always had a strong interest in the NFL. His contract was re-worked after last season and the buyout, if he were to leave for an NFL job, was lowered to about $6.5 million.
The Texans fired coach Gary Kubiak last month and they finished with the worst record in the NFL. Houston owns the number 1 pick in the upcoming NFL draft.
An official announcement is expected on Thursday.
