An 82-year-old woman receives an honorary diploma from the Derry Township School District Monday night. Grace Bomberger took a bus and a trolley to Hershey High School for 9th and 10th grade . Toward the end of her Sophomore year she came down with appendicitis and was unable to complete the school year. After she recuperated her only alternatives were to repeat 10th grade or go to summer school. But, her family only had one car that her father needed for work that summer and she was unable to get to school. Her family made the difficult decision to have her drop out of school.
After hearing from one of her friends, the district surprised her with an honorary diploma.
“ I said what could be a surprise for two old people on a cold Monday night? I never ever imagined anything like this. I don’t know how to describe it,” says Grace Bomberger
Grace was joined by her husband and two sons who traveled to Hershey to surprise her.
