The victim of a deadly hit and run accident this morning on I-83 in York County has been identified. Abel Edward Zwiep, 35, of Rapid City, South Dakota, was struck and killed by a vehicle on the shoulder of I-83 north near mile marker 23 in Manchester Township shortly after midnight.
An autopsy performed this morning confirms Zwiep died as a result of multiple blunt force trauma. Several tattoos on Zwiep’s body were used to identify him. State Police say Zwiep had been released from the York County Prison Sunday evening. He was being held on a charge of Public Drunkenness. He has no known local address. State Police are still looking for the striking vehicle in this case. Anyone traveling the area of I-83 north 12:30 and 12:40 AM who has information about this crash is asked to contact PSP York at 717-428-1011. Commercial motor vehicle carriers who may have had vehicles in the vicinity at this time are asked to inspect their vehicles for possible damage and notify State Police immediately if a vehicle with damage potentially related to this crash is found.

Investigators are looking for the driver of a vehicle that hit and killed a man along I-83 in York County early Monday morning.
According to the York County Coroner’s office, a white male was found dead on the shoulder of I-83 north near mile marker 23 in Manchester Township shortly after midnight.
Authorities say the man was seen walking on the shoulder of the road about an hour before a passerby found his body.
The victim was wearing a gray knit hat, black jacket, black jeans and black boots.
No additional details, including the victim’s identity, were immediately available.
