York City Mayor Kim Bracey will attend the State of the Union Address on Tuesday as a guest of U.S. Sen. Pat Toomey.

“It is an honor to attend a State of the Union address, particularly one given by this President, whom I support.  I thank Senator Toomey for inviting me.  I take pride in my efforts to work with anyone, regardless of political party,” Mayor Bracey said in a statement. “It is my sincere hope that the relationship Senator Toomey and I are forging will illustrate that there is always the opportunity to work to find common ground and to put the needs of the people of Pennsylvania ahead of partisan politics.”

The State of the Union Address will be delivered Tuesday by President Barack Obama to a joint session of the Senate and the House of Representatives.

“I am thrilled that Mayor Bracey will be my guest at the State of the Union address,” said Sen. Toomey said. “Born and raised in York County, Kim’s commitment to her country goes back to her service in the U.S. Air Force.  Her example of bipartisanship and leadership is an inspiration to me and so many others in Pennsylvania. I can think of no better model for cooperation – and results – than Mayor Bracey. She is a successful public servant, mother, and grandmother, and I am honored she’s able to join me in Washington this year.”

Last year, Sen. Toomey invited State Senator Anthony Hardy Williams, a Democratic state legislator from Philadelphia, to join him at the State of the Union address.
