Pa. Turnpike reopens between Carlisle and Breezewood

The Pa. Turnpike is now open between Carlisle Interchange (#226) and Breezewood Interchange (#161). Emergency crews have cleared the scene of an earlier accident at milepost 181 westbound.

However, the reduced 45 mph speed limit is still effect on the Pa. Turnpike mainline from New Stanton Interchange (#75) to Morgantown Interchange (#298) due to the winter weather conditions.

Turnpike maintenance crews are actively treating the roadway throughout the region and the Turnpike’s Traffic Operations Center will continue monitoring the weather across the system. If conditions improve, the restrictions will be lifted at the suitable time.

The PA Turnpike seems to have a difficulty in keeping this western PA stretch clear. PennDOT does a better job in keeping the non-toll roads open. If there is a wreck on a non-toll interstate, there is no 50+ mile closure/detour.
