A former Harrisburg pediatrician is charged with child pornography distribution.  The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Middle District filed the charges today against 38 year old Dr. David H. Scanlan III.  The charges stem from an investigation that began in the spring of 2011. A search of his apartment uncovered evidence of child pornography on his computer.

Scanlan was a physician specializing in pediatric oncology. He had been a physician in training at Penn State Hershey Medical Center until he was placed on administrative leave in July 2011, pending the outcome of the investigation. He has since surrendered his medical license.

According to U.S. Attorney Peter Smith says Scanlan distributed child pornography over the internet between May and June 2011. He has agreed to plead guilty to the charge pending approval by the court. He faces a minimum of five and a maximum of 20 years in prison and a $250,000 fine.
